Harold Rowley

In 2003, at age 61, Harold Rowley was in the Middle East on business for a sales visit. Feeling breathless one morning, he went to the local clinic and was quickly diagnosed with having a faulty aortic valve. “I never knew I even had an aortic valve,” Harold said.

Harold had never experienced any heart problems before, and on trips to his local doctor he had only ever been told that his blood pressure was a little high and advised “not to worry about it.”

Now in the Gulf, it seemed that he was experiencing aortic regurgitation and subsequently his heart had become enlarged from compensating for the pressure. “I never felt ill, it must have been building up,” Harold said. After returning home to Macclesfield Cheshire, England, Harold consulted with his cardiologist Dr. Robin Egdell and surgeon Dr. Tim Hooper.

On April 28, 2003, Harold underwent surgery at the Alexandra Hospital where he received a Carpentier-Edwards PERIMOUNT pericardial valve.

Since his operation, Harold and his wife, Glenys, have seen the pyramids of Egypt, Mount Vesuvius of Italy, and the birth of their grandchildren. “Most of all I can see my family every day which, without an excellent medical team and the expertise of Edwards Lifesciences, I came so close to missing.”
