David Chesky

The widely acclaimed composer and pianist David Chesky is known for his eclectic jazz and classical music as well as his innovative recording techniques. Based in New York City, David is the cofounder of Chesky Records and is also the producer and artistic director of all of his music. Young and active, David travels on a regular basis and is also an avid athlete, enjoying skiing, swimming, rowing, biking, and weight lifting.

At the age of 44, David’s health took a turn. His energy level waned and he felt unusually tired. David had developed endocarditis several years before, and the bacteria had infected his heart valve, causing it to deteriorate. When David began experiencing symptoms, an echocardiogram revealed that he needed surgery.

On October 17, 2000, David underwent mitral valve surgery. Dr. David Adams, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York successfully performed a mitral valve repair procedure using the Carpentier-Edwards Physio annuloplasty ring, thus preserving as much of David’s valve as possible. After the procedure, David is feeling well and has resumed his work and life at the full speed to which he’s accustomed.
